- Twenty years of Resolution 1325 -

WHAT ARE WPS PROJECTS?

We strive to build safer communities for Women, where they can play their social and political role as Peacebuilders. Our objective is to empower Women by ensuring their fair representation and meaningful participation in decision-making, a change must be accomplished at all levels of negotiations and crisis management. Our action is aimed at supporting women ex-fighters, survivors and women who witnessed war and violence, helping them to be reintegrated into society. Such goal must be sustained by spreading awareness about the UN Resolution 1325, able to convey consciousness about women’s power in Peacebuilding and Peacemaking. To this end, we engage local NGOs in Iraq, Lebanon, Tunisia and Libya who are at the forefront of this struggle in their communities, addressing women of all ethnicities and religions, including host communities and refugees.

Our Mission is Just and Inclusive Peace.

WOMEN, PEACE & SECURITY

Women in war are not just mothers and widows, in harsh times they become soldiers, perpetrators and recruiters, but also the most powerful agents for sustainable peace. We aim at fostering the emancipation of women’s social and political potential from patriarchal and conflictual constructs. Partner NGOs from Iraq, Lebanon, Tunisia, Lybia and Italy are building a network to learn from each other’s successes and failures, exchanging experiences in dissemination and awareness activities for women peacebuilders.

For this reason we developed a common agenda to support the full implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and to incorporate gender perspectives in peacebuilding,
together with a human approach to security.

UNSC Resolution 1325

The text of the United Nations Security Council's Resolution 1325 addresses two major issues:

  1. The inordinate impact of violent conflict and war on women and girls.

  2. The crucial role that women should, and already do play in conflict prevention
    and resolution, Peace-Making, and Peace-Building.

In short, women’s empowerment and concrete participation in peace processes plays a crucial role in the effectiveness and duration of peace agreements.

Which are the four pillars of UNSCR 1325?

  • of women in peace processes and all public decision-making processes linked to both making and building peace

  • of conflict through incorporating women’s perspectives into early warning systems, public education, and prosecution of violators of women’s rights.

  • of women during and after conflict by community, national and international security personnel.

  • that engages women and addresses their needs in relief and recovery, redress for injustice and investment in economic and social security.
